Manager of GMO's Research Data Engineering PlatformI lead a team of world-class data engineers and scientists with the singular goal of providing our investment teams consistent, speedy, and reliable access to the data they need, when and where they need it.I am currently spearheading the implementation of a high-throughput, high-availability, highly scalable unified data abstraction layer, providing a single point of access to nearly a petabyte of data, regardless of location or format, all while collecting metrics for performance, usage, and cost/showback analyses. Heuristics will guide data movement and pre-preparation of frequently accessed data to support rapid trade decisions.I also lead a department-wide data utilities working group tasked with analyzing broadly our current tooling and process flows, and identifying opportunities for how we can excel in providing low-level data access and transfer across GMO's engineering ecosystem.

Principal Engineer and Technical Lead - Research Data Platform- Oversaw technical development over nearly a petabyte of structured and unstructured research data across on-prem legacy MSSQL Servers and our rapidly expanding cloud data lake and Databricks Spark processes (PySpark/Scala)- Designed and implemented CopyCat - a Kubernetes-based, highly-scalable, high-throughput, low-latency, source/target-agnostic replication engine that keeps our on-prem and cloud data stores in sync...all at 5 9s+ availability. APIs provide deep insight into the status of data flow to allow for complete data processing where we need it.- Designed and implemented an MSSQL CLR (C#) in-memory logging application, allowing us to have deep insight into the calls to normally difficult-to-track functionalities that are widely used in MSSQL development (Scalar UDFs/Inline TVFs/Views)- Refactored and greatly enhanced a proprietary binary time series data storage format, expanding its storage capabilities and providing a seamless upgrade to end users - this included implementing a cutting-edge processor that expanded binary offset packs and implemented additional structures while live-streaming the binary data, allowing us to migrate terabytes of data in just a few hours- Designed and implemented an advanced algorithmic name matching and mapping system- Implemented advanced HPC algorithms to (safely) support massive concurrency while processing our considerable dataset- Led data engineering aspects of GMO's industry-leading ESG focus- Implemented GMO's first production Python models- Provided technical coaching across engineering to co-ops through senior engineers
