Electrical Design Staff EngineerSony Electronics, Inc Jul 1998 - PresentSan Diego - Us | Tokyo - Jp, Us* Created requirements and selected an Asian partner to co-develop and certify a custom wireless module. The wireless module incorporated Wi-Fi and Bluetooth capabilities. Results: The wireless module was constructed and certified for two second-generation Google TV products—a Set Top Box and a Blu-ray Player. * Negotiated pricing, tested extensively, and selected an antenna supplier to work with a custom wireless module that involved Wi-Fi diversity and Bluetooth coexistence using three separate antennas. Results: Price targets and coexistence performance targets were achieved. The selected supplier was the only one able to attain both targets simultaneously.* Engineered a Wi-Fi module, accelerometer, and ambient light sensor for a new product named dash. Results: Aided the team in the creation of a new product category. Submitted three accelerometer-related patents.* Developed a working prototype for a wireless high definition video link in conjunction with a key technology partner. Results: the prototype decreased the Printed Wire Board from 10-layers to 6-layers, thus, reducing board cost by more than 50%. Project moved forward into product development for production. Several patents filed relating to this project.* Engineered three generations of CableCARD prototypes. These prototypes were then tested at CableLabs in Denver, CO. Results: the design concept was launched into production for model years 2004 to present; patent filed relating to this project.* Directed a small team that was responsible for prototyping two highly integrated digital audio and video processing boards. In three short months, the results of this activity paved the way for system architecture changes in all digital TVs and two separate patents were filed for HDTV system architecture. -

Mediated and Promoted communication between the many companies and countries during the development phase of the technology Result: a brand new market segment was created.* Recognized the need, formed, and oversaw the Digital Core Competency (DCC) team. Eventually the team was expanded from three to five. The team developed two digital fiber optic concept vehicles with a unique distributed audio system. Result: the vehicles were demonstrated to various potential customers worldwide and a US patent was issued. -

Results: During the development cycle, a cost avoidance was written for over $5 Million. And established the reference standard and trend for radiated emissions of a module with multiple simultaneously running processors (a microcontroller, a data link controller, and a DSP).* Initiated a second-generation digital signal processing (DSP) audio amplifier. Result: decreased the cost of the DSP module by 30% and reduced radiated emissions by 80%. -

Performed a Gauge Repeatability and Reproducibility study with a similar tool in Singapore. Results: created a trusted auditing tool for the manufacturing line locally and abroad.* Overhauled a problematic Tri-temperature chamber by redesigning and building new test fixtures for the chamber to decrease false rejects and technician time significantly. Results: increased test yields from less than 20% to greater than 90%. Accepted an accommodation for my actions. -
