At Local Civics, we utilize an evidence-based curriculum that helps students develop civic mindsets, build civic skills, and take civic action. We also offer a technology platform where students can explore curated events and earn points attending online workshops, local community meetings, and school-hosted events. Our gamified approach to civic participation allows educators to track students’ progress towards their civic goals, visualizes student event participation, and assess student learning. Meanwhile, students gain the confidence and experience to speak up and make moves as active participants in civic life!*Visit http://www.localcivics.io to learn more and request a demo.*In my private business as a learning specialist and private-tutor, I build students’ skills and confidence so they can be enthusiastic and engaged participants in the classroom and their communities at-large. I take great pride in my ability “to teach anybody anything” and I simply love connecting with students— their fresh views on the world inspire me and give me strength!*Visit http://www.johnrudolphmueller.com to learn more about my course offerings and methods.*More about my teaching career: I started off as a Teach For America “Corps Member,” taking the fast track to earning a certification in Special Education (Students with Learning Disabilities, Grades 7-12) while concurrently earning a graduate degree in teaching. I had great fun teaching at a Bronx, NY public high school designed to meet the unique needs of recent immigrants and English language learners. Working at such a small school, I was lucky to support students in practically every subject at one time or another (Living Environment (bilingual), Earth Science, Chemistry, Integrated Algebra (bilingual), English 9 & 11/12, Global History, Music). I made tenure in 3 years, designed professional development and mentored new teachers as an Instructional Coach, and trained aspiring teachers as both a Partner Teacher for the New York City Teaching Collaborative and an Institute Mentor Teacher for Teach For America NYC. I am proud to be a two-time “Model Teacher,” chosen by a joint United Federation of Teachers/NYC Department of Education panel.
