From 2010 to 2022 and again starting in 2024, I have covered the global auto business and the intersection of autos and technology from an investment perspective, in written articles, in podcasts, and on camera. I was a reporter focused on the future of autos, at the time a new position for CNBC. I covered the universe of electric-vehicle startups that emerged in the wake of Tesla’s success, as well as battery innovators, self-driving efforts, and the traditional automakers’ efforts to stay competitive in a rapidly changing industry, in writing and occasionally on camera.

Freelancing with a copy-editor friend. I created and implemented communications strategies for several start-up companies, mostly in the financial services space. I also provided content and editorial support to larger firms in need of specialized expertise around finance and investing.

I was employee #8 at a Goldman Sachs-backed startup that was an early pioneer in advanced, web-based investment portfolio construction tools. Simply put, I was the firm's chief wordsmith: I wrote and/or edited everything from our CEO's presentations, to the FAQ files in the online product, to the business plan we used for our $20 million Series A round.

I worked for Fidelity for a total of about eight years, in two stints and in several different roles, including:- Communications consultant, working with large corporate clients on communications materials for their retirement plans. Our group’s aim was to help clients improve 401(k) enrollment rates, while ensuring their communications materials (printed and online) were consistent with both Fidelity’s standards and the companies’ own voices.- Managing editor of CONNECTIONS, Fidelity's magazine for retirement plan sponsors, with a quarterly circulation of 20,000 at the time. I wrote articles, solicited and edited other articles by Fidelity executives and outside experts, and worked with design professionals to assemble the printed issues. - Legal specialist, leading a team of compliance editors who worked with Fidelity’s various marketing departments to ensure that written and online communications a) made sense; b) described Fidelity’s products correctly, and c) met various legal and regulatory standards.
