Northern Lights Library System is one of seven regional public library systems in Alberta, Canada. We are a quasi municipal service funded by 55 municipal members and through provincial operating grants. Northern Lights’ 22 staff provide acquisition, processing, and material delivery to 49 public libraries. Additionally the system provides professional consultation, technology support, network services, marketing services, and training. We are governed by a board of directors with representatives from all 55 municipalities. As the Executive Director I lead the system in implementing the vision of the Board, manage its finances, build and lead its staff, and work to deliver world class services to all our members.

I served as the chair of the implementation team and as a steering committee member for the creation of the campus digital institutional repository and electronic theses and dissertations projects. I worked closely with and was the library’s liaison to UNBC’s information technology services. I directly supervised both a full-time system administrator and web developer. In this position I managed 3 professional staff.

During my tenure in this position I took a lead role in the selection, acquisition and subsequent migration to a new integrated library system (The system served 155 public libraries), the development of new library websites for 42 libraries and the procurement and setup of centralized wireless Internet services in 40 libraries.
