Senior Archaeologist
CurrentRyan is a founding member and Senior Archaeologist at Orbis Environmental Consulting. As Principal Investigator he is responsible for directing research, fieldwork, analysis, and reporting for cultural resource management projects. He also coordinates with agencies and consulting parties involved with NEPA, Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act, and other related cultural resource laws and regulations. Ryan has more than 15 years of experience in archaeology and cultural resource management. He has experience with linear corridor projects, including Department of Transportation projects and utility corridors. Ryan also has directed projects involving large tracts of public lands, including State and National Forests and State Army and Air National Guard properties. He also performs archival research and supervises excavation. In addition to standard fieldwork, Ryan has experience in laboratory analysis and artifact curation. He has applied innovative techniques to traditional artifact analysis, such as examining organic residues from prehistoric pottery to determine prior contents, and he has experience with human remains in archaeological contexts, including investigating unanticipated discoveries.
