About Ryan Kersh

My goal is to combine my mechanical engineering and finance backgrounds to assess, finance, and implement technology projects. These diverse backgrounds have provided me the tools needed to assess the importance of technological goals and balance them with real word viability, demands, and practicality. I am comfortable in many roles and welcome opportunities to explore new experiences. I am passionate about finding innovative solutions to new problems and improving existing solutions to familiar problems.I am open to relocating anywhere and am willing to travel for work. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------I have considerable practice developing and scheduling projects, estimating and maintaining project budgets, developing relationships with vendors, and analyzing engineering alternatives. I have utilized standard engineering calculations, analytical models, Excel, MATLAB, 3D modeling, and FEA to evaluate design concepts and system configurations. I also have experience writing detailed technical reports, and I am very comfortable conveying technical information. I try to organize information in interesting and accessible ways to facilitate understanding.

Team Leader Of Senior Design Project
    Onesubsea Sep 2014 - Dec 2014
In offshore oil and gas developments, mudmats serve as the interface between subsea structures and the seafloor. However, the large sizes necessary for effective mudmats lead to significant drawbacks during transportation and installation. Therefore, our primary goal was to create a modular or flexible mudmat foundation for compact transportation and rapid installation.During this project I: • Managed the team in our design process • Created and maintained the project schedule • Used standard engineering calculations in Excel and by hand to guide 3D modeling for:     • Structural element dimensioning     • Evaluation of bearing areas     • Stress analysis of assembly components     • Geometric and clearance considerations • Created 3D models in SolidWorks for proof of concept and for Finite Element Analysis (FEA) • Evaluated design performance:     • Used FEA over entire assembly to analyze loading scenarios     • Used FEA results to redesign problem areas and prevent failure • Wrote detailed technical reports • Edited majority of reports to ensure brevity, clarity, and congruity • Prototyped major structural elements using 3D printing • Oversaw communications and project updates between the group and our corporate sponsorsIn addition to my individual contributions, I contributed to the following areas with the rest of my team:  • Identifying project specifications, constraints, and requirements • Researching existing patents and state-of-art • Design generation using mindmapping and research on current solutions • Concept development • Design selection     • Weighted Pugh Chart to select the best designs based on relevant criteria • Component and subassembly designOur folding mudmat design improves on the traditional mudmat design by allowing for compact transport and rapid installation. This design reduced the cost and space requirements for transportation while maintaining performance under the harsh, subsea operating conditions.
  • The University Of Texas At Austin
    Teaching Assistant - Machine Shop
The University Of Texas At Austin Aug 2014 - Dec 2014
Before volunteering to TA for this class, I took the Machine Tools for Engineers class myself. The focus of this class was to learn proper equipment use, machining techniques, and safety by creating a vice from stock materials. As a TA for this class, I was responsible for:    • Instructing students in proper equipment use, machining techniques, and safety    • Maintaining shop equipment    • Managing stock and tool inventory    • Cleaning the shopSince I had completed this project as a student, I used my experiences and the problems I encountered in the machine shop to help others learn. Taking this class and working in the UT Mechanical Engineering Machine Shop gave me a lot of insight into fabrication, machining limitations, prototyping, machining tolerances, and General Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T). I also gained experience with several other manufacturing techniques, which included:    • Using MasterCam and a CNC machine to create a 3D design on a solid aluminum block    • Laser cutting designs from aluminum slabs based on SolidWorks files    • Using a lost-foam casting method to cast aluminum sculptures ★ My experience with this machining project can be seen in the “Projects” section below.★
