About Janos Sallai

Tech leader who successfully built and managed a multidisciplinary team of engineers to develop a suite of revolutionary public safety products. Bootstrapped the engineering operations of a tech startup, from infrastructure and tools decisions through mapping dreams and vision to strategic roadmap, product definition, tasks, and code. Started and grown a major open-source project with a global community of 100+ researchers in the molecular dynamics simulation/HPC field.Coming from a long career in academia, I have a strong interest in research and technical analysis. I am excited about everything new and challenging: I love to explore and build prototypes, including very ambitious ones. I enjoy working in interdisciplinary teams and believe in the cross-pollination of ideas. I have always been thrilled to pivot to new fields, ranging from low-power wireless MCUs, through deep neural networks, to molecular dynamics simulations on supercomputers. I have written and contributed to writing research proposals that resulted in awarded funding totaling over $20M, authored over 70 research papers and 3 patents, and given dozens of technical talks and presentations.I am a passionate mentor who finds it extraordinarily rewarding to invest time and effort into motivated talent. I excel at fostering momentum and inspiring my team to achieve their best. I take pride in the success of those I work with, irrespective of where they end up in life.I am a hands-on software development engineer with a PhD, possessing a unique combination of breadth and depth in technical expertise. With a diverse skill set spanning multiple platforms and domains, I have developed software for everything from low-power microcontrollers and desktop/mobile applications to high-performance supercomputing environments. My experience covers a wide range of sectors, including e-commerce, full-stack web development, hardware drivers, network stacks, data science, machine learning, and modeling and simulation in scientific domains ranging from electrical engineering to molecular dynamics.I have an aversion to the low hanging fruit.
