Natel Energy Jul 2022 - Present
    Alameda, Ca, Us
Leading control systems and data analytics for fish-safe hydro turbines
  • Natel Energy
    Senior Mechanical Engineer
    Natel Energy Apr 2018 - Jul 2022
    Alameda, Ca, Us
Responsible for structural design, electromechanical powertrain design, controls, and analytics systems
  • Hicor Technologies, Inc.
    Senior Mechanical Engineer
Hicor Technologies, Inc. Jan 2013 - Apr 2018
Led development of lab and field compressor testing programs with the goal of proving out performance and reliability.Worked with third-party vendors and fabricators to design, build, and debug prototype natural gas compression skid.Designed, built, and operated high power (500 hp), automated test cells for multiphase high-compression ratio compressors. Overcame major challenge in maintaining conditions of closed-loop gas, cooling, and lubrication systems for one-week continuous test.Developed several MATLAB-based applications to simplify and automate analysis of large quantities of lab and field data.
  • Olin College Of Engineering
    Mechanical Engineering Student
Olin College Of Engineering Sep 2008 - Dec 2012
    Needham, Ma, Us
Olin College is a small engineering school with a focus on learning through hands-on projects and working in small teams. In addition to gaining a practical and theoretical understanding of physics, math, and engineering concepts, we worked with other students, often in different disciplines, to plan and execute projects ranging from a few weeks in length to a full year. We emphasized continuous iteration of our processes and written and oral communication of project findings and possible improvements.
  • Blue Origin
    Mechanical Engineering Intern
    Blue Origin Jun 2012 - Aug 2012
    Kent, Wa, Us
Designed, fabricated, and operated acceptance testing apparatus for critical high-power hydraulic equipment. Gained experience with acceptance test design, high-speed data acquisition and processing, and high pressure fluid power.
  • Franklin W. Olin College Of Engineering
    Thermodynamics Teaching Assistant
Franklin W. Olin College Of Engineering Jan 2012 - May 2012
In addition to working with and mentoring students I am working with the professors of this course as well as a few other students to make the Thermodynamics experience less traditional and more applicable to students' personal learning goals.
  • Oscomp Systems
    Mechanical Engineer
    Oscomp Systems Jan 2011 - Aug 2011
During my time at OsComp, as with any early-stage start-up, I spent a lot of time doing a little bit of everything. Some of it I'd had experience with, but a lot of it was new.Initially, I spent a lot my time doing component design on a second prototype of our cutting-edge natural gas compressor and developing component level test benches. This design work was accompanied by a fair amount of research into reliability and wear testing, which often played into presentations to potential investors and customers.Later on, my focus shifted to further developing the company's computational compressor model. I was able to make this simulation much more user-friendly and versatile by converting it from an Excel spreadsheet into a Matlab-style function. Since the results of this simulation informed not only specific design decisions, but also business decisions, accuracy and speed were vital. I pushed the boundaries of my knowledge by implementing parallel programming techniques and teaching my co-workers how to use and modify the simulation.Interspersed throughout my entire time at OsComp were smaller side-projects in IP, scaling and feasibility analysis, and designing and building a natural gas compression skid with current technology.
  • Franklin W. Olin College Of Engineering
    Communications Student Worker
Franklin W. Olin College Of Engineering Oct 2008 - Sep 2010
Enhanced graphic design skills by creating publications and advertisements for distribution to campus and other organizations and universities. Managed several independent, long-term projects simultaneously.
  • Franklin W. Olin College Of Engineering
    Non-Linear Vibrational Energy Harvesting Research
Franklin W. Olin College Of Engineering Jun 2010 - Aug 2010
As a student researcher I worked on adding on to the work of previous students. This includes modeling, designing, building, and testing several versions of a vibrational energy harvester that uses non-linear dynamics to extend its range of resonant frequencies. These harvesters use induction as well as magnetostrictive materials to convert motion into usable energy. I am first author on a conference paper published about this research.
