I've spent most of my career in the commercialization of products and technologies for redefining the performance and capabilities of wireless communication integrated circuits and devices used in consumer electronics. I enjoy investing myself at the intersection of "massive opportunity" and "that can't be done." I've worked in environments ranging from Fortune 500 companies to late-stage privates, seed-stage startups and university spinouts, in roles ranging from engineer to product marketer to business and customer development executive and CEO. Recently I've begun to move away from my wireless communications comfort zone into broader technologies and opportunities. My passion is in creating something new from things that already exist. I enjoy enabling highly creative people to innovate technology, and building a business around their work. I feel my greatest strengths are the ability to identify and define in detail a market opportunity for a particular technology, motivate highly talented people to invest themselves in that opportunity, and then plan and successfully execute into it.I am a wine geek (it's an intersection of science, art and hard work that tastes good), a novice cyclist (I can't run fast enough to feel like I'm going somewhere, but I can bike fast enough), a hack gardener (I like making things grow), and an amateur astronomer (because I'm not a good enough scientist to be a real one). Someday Carol and I will live near London (world class city on a human scale, and the best football in the world)...but we'll always love living in the best European city in the US, Portland.
