B/E Aerospace was truly incredible and where I really came into my own as a professional. Having built a large skill set along the way this pushed my abilities and knowledge to the next level. After a year with the company I was picked to join what was basically the Tiger Team (their phrase). Our task was to win a $1B program from Boeing for the 737. The General Manager came to me and asked me to basically estimate all costs related to the program, manufacturing related, capital development, and building a new factory in the Philippines.......no problem.On top of those elements I needed to completely stand-up a new finance and accounting department, while running day to day accounting activities, month end close, quarterly reporting, and staying on top of all engineering design changes to ensure budget accuracy....no problem.I couldn't have asked for a better opportunity or a better team to work with. If you ever find yourself on one of the new 737's and in the back of the plane you notice a lavatory wall has the shape of an "S". Then you look on the inside of the lavatory and everything looks custom built, with a high level of comfort, that is what we did.

I am always interested in learning new industries, and of course the opportunity to further expand my Excel knowledge. Kapstone and the people there were truly amazing, I found new respect for something as simple as the paper industry. I helped them gain levels of efficiency across all levels of their business, efficient management of E&O, shorten the close cycle by improving reports, improving product margins by reducing cost. I was given free reign to work on nearly anything I felt could be done more efficiently. In my first 3 months the Dir. of Finance pulled me aside to let me know that people he had never even met were letting him know how I improved their part of the business, and how grateful they were. Always good to get accolades you didn't have to do anything for. While I liked the company quite a bit, a new opportunity in aerospace came along that brought me back to my roots. I was offered a 75% raise to stay on board which I turned down (yup I took less money to move to a new job).

Heath Tecna was amazing, my mentor Vince Huard was truly incredible. He introduced me into a much wider world of what Excel was truly capable of achieving. I really took his broad strokes of knowledge and ran with them into completely new areas. In only 6 months of working in aerospace I became one of the leading program winners with my estimates. My end program analytics were sought after for not only my insight, but corrective actions for future programs.
