About Jessica Schleider, Phd

I am an intervention scientist, clinical psychological scientist, professor, and Founding Director of the Lab for Scalable Mental Health (www.schleiderlab.org). I am dedicated to building, testing, and disseminating brief, digital interventions to promote youth mental health, with a focus on single-session interventions (SSIs). My professional mission is to disseminate scalable, evidence-based mental health solutions that fill previously-unfillable gaps in mental health ecosystems worldwide. In support of my research on single-session mental health interventions, I have secured >$9 million in federal, industry and foundation grants and awards. To date, I have created or co-created seven open-access, single-session mental health programs, which have served >70,000 young people and adults. Since 2014, I have published >140 peer-reviewed articles and chapters in leading scientific outlets (e.g. Nature Human Behaviour; Journal of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry).I am the recipient of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Director's Early Independence Award; the Association for Behavioral and Congitive Therapies’ (ABCT) President's New Researcher Award; the Society for a Science of Clinical Psychology's (SSCP) Susan Nolen-Hoeksema Early Career Research Award; and the Society of Clinical Child & Adolescent Psychology's Abidin Early Career Award. My research has also been featured in multiple media outlets, including The Wall Street Journal, The Atlantic, and Vox, and in 2020 I was selected as one of Forbes' 30 Under 30 in Healthcare.Based on my lab's evidence-based mental health programs, I wrote a self-help workbook, The Growth Mindset Workbook for Teens (New Harbinger). I am also co-editor of the Oxford Guide to Brief and Low-Intensity Interventions for Children and Young People (Oxford University Press). Most recently, I wrote a nonfiction book, LITTLE TREATMENTS, BIG EFFECTS (2023; Little Brown Book Group) on how single-session interventions and meaningful moments can transform mental health. To support others in building and implementing single-session mental health support, I regularly consult for national health care companies, digital health startups, and providers worldwide.
