Scientist of the RESPONSE research project (financed by BELSPO)The purpose of the project is to understand (field work + modelisation) the migration of contaminants (heavy metals, PAH...) in the soil and in the groundwater of Belgium. (Collaboration with OVAM and SPAQuE).My contribution: responsible of the selection of the sampling sites in the cemeteries and the municipal landfills of Belgium. That involve : collecting environmental (soil drainage, type of substrate, mean annual rainfall, depth of the phreatic, distance to river...), cartography of the environmental parameters, selection of the sampling sites base on the parameters in order the identify the best candidates. That part of the work is realized with GIS softwares (Arc Gis, Model Builder). Field verifications and sampling + sharing expertise in soil pollution

This lab research intern (3 months) was a collaboration with the LHyGeS (Laboratoire d'Hydrologie et de Geochimie de Strasbourg) under the supervision of François Chabaux.The LHyGeS has developed a large expertise in a totally new technique to evaluate the chemical weathering rate in soil. The latter is based on the Uranium decay disequilibrium that occurred in when the soil is created from the bedrock.Laboratory work in a white room to isolate Uranium isotopes from soil samples.Measurement of the isotopic ratios on several Mass Spectrometer (Neptune and Triton)Modeling of disequilibrium to infer ranges of weathering rates
