Instead of putting a down payment on a house, I took a one year sabbatical to study Spanish and travel globally. I identified three emerging areas to learn about and explore (i.e. South America, Southeast Asia, and Africa). The journey provided a genuine connection with Southeast Asia and led me to a graduate program where I was able to study the regional economics and politics and build a stronger network.
