Developed and executed the first strategic communications plan for the organization in over a decade, with a focus on rebuilding the association's brand. This included an aggressive overhaul of internal and external communication; COVID crisis response and material development; signature "Red Tag" campaign; leveraging of economic data to tell the industry's story; revamp of our monthly magazine, Building Insight, new website, launch of digital channels and content creation for members, policy makers and key influencers. Farmers for Free Trade reverses the way trade advocacy has been done for decades, taking it from inside the beltway to the states. We are partnering with our nation’s governors, engaging local ag leaders, and sharing information about how trade policy impacts each state’s economic footprint. We will be working to mobilize, organize and educate in order to make the connection between rural America and Washington D.C. Those inside the beltway need to hear from farmers and ranchers on the ground about how ag exports are keeping not only their families afloat, but the way that trade benefits ripple in the supply chain from farmer to processor to consumer.

Led a team, including outside consultants and legal, in managing fundraising and execution of political advocacy at the state and federal levels for one of the largest political action committees (PAC), as well as corporate contributions at the state and federal levels. Raised all PAC funding from Wal-Mart associates to spend on behalf of the company and ensured PAC and corporate compliance with state and federal election and financial-reporting laws and regulations. Made budget recommendations and managed the PAC board, composed of 18 VPs and up from across Walmart.• Supported congressional and senate candidates nationwide and of both parties, contributing to a 98% win ratio for candidates supported, and drove grassroots support for a number of issues such as alcohol sales, GMO labeling, trade policy, and health care policy.• Over 3 years, raised and guided spending of a total of more than $6M in combined PAC and corporate political advocacy spending.• Executed over 100 Congressional site tours of Walmart facilities.

Supervised a team and coordinated the work of more than 15 lobbyists and consultants in driving political advocacy and corporate responsibility via Wal-Mart Foundation giving in a 22-state region. Developed and managed the company’s legislative agenda and partnered with internal organizations, including the foundation in giving. Presented proposals for new store sites to local city and county governments.• Led the team that defeated multiple bills that had the potential for a negative $500M effect on revenues, successfully advocating a gubernatorial veto in California of a bill that would have effectively kept Wal-Mart from building big-box stores in the state.• Guided corporate and foundation annual giving that usually exceeded $20M and raised and spent approximately $5M on state and local advocacy programs.
