About Joe Payton

I am an experienced sport and athlete Development Manager, motivated and passionate about helping young people achieve their goals. As Manager, Sport & Heath Performance at the Hawkes Bay Community Fitness Centre Trust, I manage the Sports Performance Gym which provides strength and conditioning services to athletes of all development levels. I lead the Sport & Life Academy programmes we run with Primary and Secondary schools in the Hawkes Bay. Alongside this I am coordinating the 'Pau te Hau' Research project in conjunction with AUT University and our At Risk Youth programme the 'Youth Potential Academy'. Prior to my current role at the Hawkes Bay Community Fitness Centre Trust, I was the Player Development Manager at Hawkes Bay Rugby for 9 seasons. During that time, the Academy regularly produced players for the Hawkes Bay Magpies, NZ Age Group teams, Super Rugby teams and the All Blacks. I was also the technical advisor for the Hawkes Magpies from 2014 to 2016. I have worked for various professional rugby teams in coaching and analyst capacities.
