At Cortex, we developed world-class software products that enabled building operators to run their buildings with significantly more precision. This created substantial financial savings for our clients while also having a significant environmental sustainability impact.My role at Cortex was to lead all Product and Engineering efforts to make sense of the millions of data points generated by buildings each day. We did this by working side by side with our customers to understand their operations, generating operational recommendations using Machine Learning algorithms, and delivering those recommendations across our multichannel platform.During my time as CTO, I was responsible for restructuring our Engineering organization resources and processes, leading to a ~3x increase in development velocity.

At Opower, I had the privilege of serving as the Engineering Manager and Technical Lead focused on architecting our Customer Engagement Loyalty platform. This platform is used by our utility company clients to regularly engage their customers with their energy usage and encourage them to participate in utility-sponsored programs such as home energy audits and electronic billing sign-up. In these roles, I have been responsible for constructing the high-level business vision of our Points and Rewards platform while simultaneously orchestrating and managing its development. Specifically, I have:• Managed a fluid team of nine across multiple organizations and locales• Transitioned a single prototype Ruby/Rails application to a Java-based Service Oriented Architecture to align with Opower's overall technical vision and core competencies• Unlocked our platform's business logic through APIs to enable true cross-product engagement across our web, email, mobile, and paper delivery channels.• Created high-level technical documents, low-level technical specifications, and actionable work items to convert a largely abstract idea into functioning softwarePrior to taking on the Lead Engineering responsibilities for our Points and Rewards platform, I served as a Software Developer writing clean, maintainable, and testable code for Opower's Social application and Web Portal.

Working side by side with employees from the Food and Drug Administration I helped to design, develop, and test a complex business rules engine for processing drug applications. This work involved converting a rigid legacy system into a flexible business process management system that was capable of handling the dynamic needs of the rapidly evolving health care industry.Additionally, my responsibilities in this role centered around keeping our code base as clean as possible. To do so, I helped mentor junior engineers and instituted a culture of unit testing, code reviews, and continuous builds.

Successfully took over a failing project and created a high quality Java/J2EE application to deliver information to soldiers and analysts around the globe. This project involved integrating multiple distributed systems and disparate data sources to provide a holistic view of resources vital to the war time decision making process.

Responsible for rapidly developing custom PHP/MySQL applications to meet a variety of user needs. This work included developing a custom Content Management System (CMS) and various marketing websites.
