  • Fung Fellowship At Uc Berkeley
    Honors Research Fellow
Fung Fellowship At Uc Berkeley Aug 2019 - May 2020
    Berkeley, California, United States
My Honors project, partnered with STREAM Education and UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland, is to alleviate boredom and social isolation in teens in isolation units. We interviewed pediatricians, Child Life specialists, teens from around the world, and previously long-term hospitalized patients. There were many challenges to navigate: HIPAA, limited hospital resources, and post-treatment side effects to name a few. We pivoted several times before prototyping, testing, and deploying our solution.
  • Fung Fellowship At Uc Berkeley
    Health & Wellness Design Fellow
Fung Fellowship At Uc Berkeley Aug 2018 - Aug 2019
The Fung Fellowship is geared towards identifying and solving health/wellness problems that affect young children, older adults, and veterans through human-centered design processes. I work with a diverse team of fellows to reach out to communities to understand their needs and desires; formulate feasible and impactful solutions; and pitch these solutions to industry leaders and experts.Semester 1 - Partner organization: Purple Asparagus (Chicago, IL)Purple Asparagus aims to improve childhood nutrition by introducing young kids to new foods in novel, creative ways. After intense customer engagement, we identified and targeted the gap that exists between school and home education. We prototyped The Digital Spear, a portal where parents can engage and continue to support healthy eating habits at home through recipes, randomized healthy-eating challenges/leaderboards, and scrapbooking the family's adventures in trying fun, new foods.Semester 2 - Partner organization: SmithGroup (San Francisco, CA)SmithGroup challenged us to create a multi-sensory therapy experience for dementia-care homes. We performed literary reviews and interviewed caregivers to get a better sense of our user base, since directly interviewing our users was not an option. Our final product was a station with thematic plug-and-play boards where seniors could engage in past or new experiences utilizing sight, hearing, and touch. Based on the item they picked up on the board, they could learn a new skill (eg: knitting) by learning from the video on screen (and with any family members present) or be transported to a different experience (eg: a familiar baseball stadium).
