I hold a PhD in behavioral psychology and have skills relevant for data analysis generally. My goal is to transition from academia to a commercial job, and learn a new industry in the process. Happy to physically relocate if necessary. The value proposition to my employer can be summarized under three main headings.ResearchThe scientific method is applicable to almost any type of problem solving. Some of the basic training you get as a researcher is how to experiment and find casual connections. The resulting findings then have to be summarized in writing that distills potentially complex ideas into plain English.PsychologyMy field is called behavior analysis. Rather than classifying people into fixed and abstract “types”, behavior analysis is concerned with how tangible behavior can be changed practically. Applications include skills development, organizational management, consumer behavior, and more.DataMy thesis discussed statistical methods in psychology. I am proficient in Python and have some familiarity with SQL, R, Matlab and Bash. I hold an IBM data science certificate, covering tools such as Jupyter Labs, SQL, interactive dashboards, and machine learning.
