About John Talbott

Over the last seventeen years I have migrated from a successful career in business to teaching and research in the field of marketing, retail, and general business. Retail and educational consulting are also part of my weekly activities. Many of the courses I teach involve the use of business or marketing simulations with a strong focus on connecting business activities to financial results. In 2012 I received the William Panschar award for teaching excellence. This is the highest honor of its kind in the Kelley School. I have also been been honored as a multiple nominee for the Kelley School Innovative Teaching award. Most recently in May of this year I received an academic excellence award from our trustees. For that I can thank my students. I should say co-learners..I have had a unique set of experiences in different functional operating areas of public and private companies. Details and process are important to me. I work well with creatives by articulating the business vision and fully advantaging their skills. I have an ability to inspire people and to lead them based on a shared vision. I truly want the best for those around me and believe this leads to overall success for the entity. Start-ups and early stage entities are of particular interest. I have worked in factories developing product, and worked on the streets implementing marketing execution around the world. In cross-cultural situations I am comfortable and have experience in Europe, Mexico, Hong-Kong,Korea, Japan, China, Indonesia, Colombia, Chile, Italy, France, and some other places that I can no longer remember.My goals are to get up every day and do what I like while earning a living for my family. I won't like it if my wife and kids don't like it. I like to be EXCELLENT at whatever I take on.Specialties: Business Ed and Course Development. Product Development and Marketing. Internal & external turnarounds. Large and small company experience. M&A experience as a CEO and all the legal interaction that comes with this activity. Brand Development through 3 dimensional creation of a total store experience. Product specification experience. Capital acquisition experience. Board experience. Courtroom experience as an expert witness.
