As part of the research experience, I made an overseas period in MetOcean Solutions, where I worked on the improvement of an statistical downscaling and forecasting system for storm surge around New Zealand. The model is now part of the daily forecasts in the MetService website.

During the two years that I have been developing the Thesis, it has been focused on the development and use of hybrid methods (which make use of numerical models, but also have a strong statistical component, which include ML and AI), to carry out downscaling, forecasting tasks.... all focused on meteo-oceanographic variables.The work done in these two years has been presented in two international conferences:- EVAN 2022 (Advances in Extreme Value Analysis and Application to Natural Hazards) in Florida, USA.- ICCE 2022 (International Conference on Coastal Engineering) in Sydney, Australia.

Both my Master's thesis and the internship had as objective the development of a high resolution waves database in Cantabria, where a hybrid downscaling model was used to study the surfability of the different surfbreaks in the region. All this was developed within the framework of the project: "Hidrodiversity, blue heritage and sustainable development: diagnosis and proposals for action on surf in Cantabria", of the Government of Cantabria.
