I have a strong quantitative background with a B.S. and M.S. in Statistics. Although my most recent job title was Risk Analyst, it could better be described as a Commercial Analyst. I was primarily supporting Account Executives in structuring large multi-year petrochemical sales deals. This consisted of providing quantitative analysis of potential pricing mechanisms, testing pricing scenarios, and providing guidance on potential risks. I enjoy turning data into information. I also enjoy working with Commercial staff to learn about potential deals and challenges they face, and thinking of how I could help.I left my previous job a few months before Covid due to a re-organization within the company. I had planned to take a ‘sabbatical’ for a few months. I enrolled in a 6-month data analytics boot camp at Rice University, which covered several topics including Excel/VBA, Python, SQL, and Tableau. It was a very good experience and I enjoyed it a great deal. My plan was to take a couple of months off after the boot camp ended to relax, do a bit of travelling/camping, and then start searching for a new job. Unfortunately, when the class ended, we were in the first Covid lockdown, so I mainly focused on getting my job search up and running and working on some household projects. By the time I was ready to start actively looking, we went into the second lockdown and the job market had dried up. After a number of months of looking and seeing nothing, I decided to take a step back from the job search and focus and being healthy and happy and wait for things to improve. I developed a home workout routine and exercised every day. I also began eating much healthier. The state parks eventually opened back up and I was able to get out of town for many camping trips. In between trips, I read a lot, took a few online courses, and spent time reviewing the topics from the boot camp. So now that Covid seems to be finally improving and the job market is looking better, I am ready to get back to work. Having time off has been nice, but I miss the sense of purpose that comes with having a career. I am now well rested, in much better physical condition, and eager to put my skills to use in a rewarding position.
