As a passionate educator with over 20 years of experience, I have made it my life's work to advocate for the rights of disabled, homeless, and adjudicated youth, as well as their families. My expertise lies in creating and implementing programs that cater to the unique needs of each individual, ensuring that they have the tools and resources necessary to achieve their post-secondary goals.throughout my career, I have collaborated with local universities to enhance work programs for adults with disabilities, resulting in strengthened outcomes. I obtained certification as a Work Incentive Counselor from Social Security to assist families in balancing work and SSI benefits. I have also established and nurtured partnerships with community organizations and employers, successfully generating leads to support all aspects of the transition process.In addition to my work in education, I have held leadership positions in both non-profits and government, including serving as President and Legislative Liaison for the Michigan Transition Service Association and as a founding member of the Michigan Interagency Transition Team. I have also started my own non-profit camp for adults with disabilities, Camp Zip, and served as Community Action Board Chair for Washtenaw County.As a trainer and speaker, I have shared my expertise on assistive technology, job development, and curriculum with audiences across the country. Most recently, I facilitated and designed the 2021 MTSA Virtual Transition Conference.I was recently awarded a fellowship from Michigan State University in the Michigan Political Leadership Program, a testament to my dedication to promoting equality and justice for all. The group is focused on training about 750 people for teaching careers, from those without bachelor’s degrees to those already certified as teachers but who want to broaden areas they are eligible to teach. Community members interested in working in a school setting, paraprofessionals, substitute teachers and current teachers are all possible candidates for the program.
