Through an apprenticeship with True Colors, I work as a Gay-Straight Alliance Coordinator. As an Ally, I also participate in weekly leadership and personal development trainings. Working with other Allies in the Hartford area, we join together once a week to develop a city-wide project to benefit the community.

As a corps member in City Year, I am placed in a classroom with a partner teacher to assist her with any tasks she wants done. When I am not tutoring a small group of students in math, reading, or writing, I am managing the classroom behavior. After the regular school day ends, I help out in afterschool clubs and run some of my own. That allows me to engage with students I usually do not interact with during the normal school day. Outside of the classroom, we also run service projects to benefit the local community.

Using Microsoft Excel, I Identified and obtained contact information from different taxis, supermarkets, and other businesses who may possibly be interested in forming some kind of partnership.

Started off at the cash register where I rung up items customers wanted to purchase. While it was not mandatory, it was expected I sold a certain amount of Barnes and Noble memberships a day. I also worked at the customer service center where I answered questions customers have had in person or on phone. If they needed help finding a certain book in the store, I would guide them to their desired books as well as make recommendations similar to the book. Occasionally, I also worked at the Nook station where I sold Nooks and provided technical support for them as well. There were also some days where I covered people at the cafe and made Starbucks drinks due to staff shortage.
