As a peer tutor mentor, I train current and new tutors regarding the philosophy of the tutoring department while also providing resources they can use throughout the semester for their sessions.

As a Biology Fellow, I assist the Biology Chair in promoting the biology department during recruitment events and helping to host biology department gatherings throughout the academic year.

Jun 2023 - May 2024: Undergraduate researcher in the Weber lab focusing on screening different Agrobcterium tumefaciens strains to harbor synthetic construct of PVY N:O for infection of tobacco.Oct - Dec 2024: Undergraduate researcher in the Tobiason lab focusing on inducing antimicrobial activity from previously isolated bacteria from my Microbiology class.

I tutor General Chemistry and Spanish courses throughout the semester. As a peer tutor, I meet with students to help guide their understanding of topics they may be struggling with throughout their courses.

As a Chemistry Lab Assistant, I support the Professor in lab by supervising, setting-up, and cleaning experiments while also helping students throughout the experiments by providing a safe environment.

As a tutor outreach coordinator, I assist the director of Tutoring in checking-in with tutors, plan events, and also helping advertise any upcoming events the Peer Tutoring and Writing Center may be holding.

Under the SURE program at Carthage College I have been selected as a candidate to participate in research with a faculty in their area of expertise. This summer I did research with Dr. Erin Weber who specializes in Biochemistry. As a recipient of the highly competitive REU “Genetic and Biochemical Analysis of Proteins”, I was hosted by Dr. Humaira Gowher’s lab where my project focused on analyzing the regulation of MAPK signaling in Vezf1 knockout murine embryonic stem cells (mESCs) by knocking down the transcription factor CTCF. During my time in the Gowher lab, I learned how to run western blots, RT-PCRs, RT-qPCRs, colorimetric assays, grow and harvest murine embryonic stem cells, and transfect using a shRNA.

Worked under the supervision of Geneticist Juan Carlos Delgado testing multiple confiscated marine samples. Performed multiple PCRs, DNA extraction from blood and tissue, running gel electrophoresis, and analyzing genomic sequences.

As a Student Ambassador, my job is to serve as a guide to students and lead them to a path in regards to their goals, interests, and major(s)/minor(s) as well as inform them of events and opportunities held by the Aspire Center.
