As a recipient of the highly competitive REU “Genetic and Biochemical Analysis of Proteins”, I was hosted by Dr. Humaira Gowher’s lab where my project focused on analyzing the regulation of MAPK signaling in Vezf1 knockout murine embryonic stem cells (mESCs) by knocking down the transcription factor CTCF. During my time in the Gowher lab, I learned how to run western blots, RT-PCRs, RT-qPCRs, colorimetric assays, grow and harvest murine embryonic stem cells, and transfect using a shRNA.
