Technology stack: ASP.net Core Web APIs against a highly read-optimized SQL Server DB (via Dapper micro-ORM), with ETL jobs sourcing data from a Dynamics CRM and automated unit-testing of APIs via Postman.• Full-stack development of PlanFinder v2 (https://join.southerncross.co.nz/), the company´s main public-facing website. Lots of enhancements in the frontend (responsive CSS + JavaScript and frameworks: jQuery, Bootstrap, Backbone, Underscore, RequireJS, Npm, Grunt), as well as to JSON data controllers and integration pieces in the backend (ASP.net MVC, Entity Framework, SQL Server).

Project-based consultancy in diverse end-client engagements, mainly around software architecture and development within Microsoft .net• Senior designer/developer at Ezibuy – Responsible for the staging architecture of an integration project to sell Ezibuy products in external ecommerce sites (“drop shipping”). Devised and developed a suit of back-end services to source all data from SAP and other repositories (ETL), then ship it in diverse formats to external systems on agreed schedules and through different interfaces (REST APIs as well as cloud-based EDI) and provide smart caching for stock levels. Technological stack: C#, SQL Server, SSIS & bespoke ETL, AWS, SAP connectors, XML/JSON, PowerQuery and SSRS.• High-level requirements, technical analysis and solution architecture for St John Digital Transformation strategy. Delivered a road-map towards the implementation of the St John Customer Portal; a single point of (self) service for all customers, accessible on any device and at any time. Essentially a high-level integration architecture task, the main technical challenge was how to best reach the common dream of the Customer Golden Record; as St John is heavily invested in Salesforce, the architectural analysis involved deep understanding of Salesforce integration capabilities to devise an overarching Customer Management API layer.• Senior developer for the NZ Defense Force – Main designer and developer of a Training Management system that allowed the NZDF to streamline the design and distribution of their training plans. Technological stack: Microsoft C#, Silverlight, ASP.net (MVC and Web APIs) and SQL Server.I have also contributed to smaller enhancements or support needs for an extensive suit of previously-built applications at Fujitsu (mostly within Logistics and Transportation), and have lead a new and very successful BI practice focused on cutting-edge Microsoft tools (mainly PowerBI).

Senior Analyst and Developer, Architect, PM and Software Production Coordinator for www.valenciaportpcs.net, Port Community System of Port of Valencia (biggest container port in the Mediterranean).Key player in this large-scale project from its inception. I was instrumental in growing the platform to be mission-critical for hundreds of users (500+ companies). Lead several teams of contract developers in this 2M €/year project, a system of several million transactions per month built using state-of-the-art sw and hw architecture principles (SaaS, SOA, Enterprise Service Bus, virtualized server farm) and Microsoft technology (C# and VB.net, SQL Server, desktop and ASP.net web interfaces, workflow and messaging building blocks, WCF, and BI via SSAS/SSRS). Especially proud of implementing automated end-to-end testing, a mock-free replication of the live environment (1M+ DB records) that enabled highly reliable deployments to such a critical system while easily catering as well for performance impact.Valenciaportpcs.net has been the driving force behind Port of Valencia´s growth in the past 10 years, allowing annual double-digit increases in traffic with very little investment in costly physical infrastructures.• My responsibilities in the project gradually evolved from Senior Analyst/Developer to Development Manager. On-site Consultant and Project Manager for a Port Community System pilot application for Port of Melbourne (Australia), based on valenciaportpcs.net technology.Performed requirements gathering, business and technical analysis, and system specification, followed by management of a remote team of developers to deliver the end-product.In a tortuous scenario (stakeholders at odds, joint-venture of 3 companies, time-difference between clients and development team), I was able to steer the project to a reasonable degree of success: the product was delivered within planned schedule and budget, and the pilot system operated for the envisioned lifetime.Among my many duties, I participated in monthly status meetings with government officials from State of Victoria Department of Transport and Port of Melbourne Corporation (project´s stakeholders), as well as conducted several presentations of the pilot system to broad audiences of shipping-industry professionals.

Organizational audit and tailor-made development of an OLAP application for the Business Intelligence department of the Spanish pharmaceutical giant GRIFOLS.Evolved the initial .net Windows desktop application over the course of several years, migrated it to a ASP.NET web portal, and facilitated credentials-controlled access to all employees through the company´s intranet.The software empowers the company´s product managers and highest-level executives to make sound strategic decisions based on multi-dimensional reports from market trends. My main achievement in this project was to create an application that makes such complex queries an intuitive and pain-free process for the users, most of them not technically savvy.

End-to-end definition, development, implementation and user training of a lab management system for ProGenie, a biotechnology and genetic testing company.The software (a multi-user Windows desktop application developed in .NET and Microsoft Access) has been critical in the success and growth of the company (from 2 people in 2002 to 10 nowadays, and from tens of lab tests in 2002 to more than 3000 in 2011).

The most significant assignment while at INAD/ALTRAN was to manage a very ambitious research and development project for the largest bus company in Spain, Grupo ALSA.I lead the conception, design, development and deployment of a planning and optimization system for all operative resources of the company (3000+ buses, 4000+ drivers, as well as maintenance garage and their staff).This complex application took more than two years to complete and received an Award to Entrepreneurial Innovation in the region of Asturias as “Best Project of 2000 in section: Technological Development”. It is since used on a day-to-day basis to run operations at ALSA.

Involved in the reengineering and enhancement of GPSS (the Space Shuttle Ground Processing Scheduling System), a very complex optimization system built in Lisp and C++ under Unix.I was assigned the most complex tasks of the design and implementation of the application’s core, an intelligent scheduling engine which used search/simulation techniques to minimize conflicts and total schedule length. Published a scientific article based on this work: "Enhancements to the Ground Processing Scheduling System", in Proceedings of TIME 97.Based on recent research for my Master´s Thesis which I applied to the algorithm, the application improved schedule quality by 15%, implying enormous benefits to the maintenance costs of the Space Shuttle.
