• Engaged in preformulation and formulation projects (Academia-Industry) that aim: a) to identify additives and polymers that induce solubilization and/or supersaturation conditions on nutraceutical compounds and APIs; b) develop new solid phases for tailoring the biopharmaceutical performance of APIs and nutraceuticals; c) design and development of nano-systems for topical delivery of drugs. • Supervise students on research projects in solid-state chemistry, physical chemistry and pharmaceutics, at undergrad and graduate level. • Establishment and optimization of protocols for turbidimetry assays, paramount for the rational selection of excipients. • Promote a suitable working environment by organizing individual and/or group study-sessions, planning social activities, safety tasks and training. • Contribute regularly to peer-review research papers. • Main achievements include the writing of scientific manuscripts in the field of food sciences and pharmaceutics; and selected to present orally in the Young Investigators Panel at the National Congress in Pharmaceutical Sciences.

- Pioneered in the utilization of surface characterization techniques based on gas-solid interactions (inverse gas chromatography), which resulted in a high impact publication in the field of carbohydrates (carbohydrate polymers, 2018). - Established IGC procedures to obtain reliable and reproducible data. The procedure is being currently used to study the impact of the manufacturing process and storage conditions on different excipients, food matrixes and APIs. - Started formulation studies to develop nano-dispersion designed to be used in a drop-on-demand technology for personalized medicine. - Realized profound characterization studies on naturally-occurring polymers and heterogeneous amorphous dispersions to evaluate the impact of moisture on the surface properties, surface chemistry and bulk properties.

• Successfully realized preformulation studies on novel solids of APIs to identify and characterize polymorphs, hydrates, solvates, salts and cocrystals (project in collaboration with the pharmaceutical company Laboratorios Senosiain SA de CV). • Supervised/mentored undergrad and graduate students within the research group. • Adapted scientific concepts in the field of physical pharmacy and crystal engineering into advance undergraduate courses.
