Senior Project Lead/Archaeologist
As permit holder and project manager for northern BC, my primary responsibility is to meet the regulatory needs of my clients through a high standard of excellence and communication. In addition, I provide in-field advice in the pre-planning stages to assist in avoidance of archaeological potential. I have provided training for local First Nations communities in archaeological methodology, as well as Traditional Use Studies.
Archaeologist
Principal Owner
Company specializing in providing archaeological consulting services to meet the regulatory needs of my clients, as well as GIS services to other archaeological consulting firms.
President And Board Member
My belief that heritage conservation can only be achieved through grass roots education was honed and expanded while at the ASBC. As a volunteer board member for nine years, of which seven was spent as President, I worked closely with local and provincial governments, First Nations, and like-minded heritage groups and individuals, to educate the public (and occasionally those same governments) about archaeology and how to preserve our common heritage. I began the public archaeology program "Discover Archaeology" in Nanaimo, which ran for seven years until I moved to Fort St. John. I visited many schools and local youth groups , conducting hands-on activities designed to engage while educating the importance of archaeology in BC. It was with the ASBC I gained valuable experience working with a variety of stakeholders with opposing views, gaining the ability to bring people together for a common goal. Here I forged close relationships based on mutual understanding and respect with local governments and regulatory bodies which have served me well in my current postion at Archer
Database Technician And Quality Control
Maintained quality control of all TEM polygon databases and data entry of over 1000 TEM field cards in to the VENUS program for a large-scale TEM project on the BC Westcoast.
Junior Ecologist/Database Technician
Junior ecologist on large-scale terrestrial ecosystem and predicitive ecosystem mapping projects, responsible for data collection of ecosystem information, transfer of field data in to VENUS, generation and quality assurance of map databases, and assisting in report production. Participated in wildlife projects, including marbled murrelet surveys, bat and amphibian capture, as well as deer, elk, and black bear habitat assessments. Also participated in terrain stability assessments and subsequent database generation for both field and map data.
Archaeologist
Initially starting as an archaeologist whose primary role was to excavate, I progressed to detailed in-situ artifact and faunal sketching and profile drawings for the duration of the project. In addition, I assisted in the analysis of the lithic assemblage during my undergraduate years, which culminated in a contract following graduation to finalize the analysis for 2 years of excavation. It is here I gained vital experience working closely with First Nations to reach common goals and the importance of grass roots archaeology. My work at HSI allowed me to work on the Exshaw Project, where I continued my work as an illustator and field archaeologist.
