You’re nine years old, and the only thing you want in the whole world is for your dad to build you a treehouse. Your mom is adamantly opposed to the very notion, and your dad knows that to keep any semblance of peace in the household, he’d better back her up. When your friends find out, there is resigned disappointment all around. What do you do?If you’re me, you opportunistically gather scrap wood, borrow tools from your dad’s garage, pick a climbable tree out of sight of your house, and you spend all summer building an elevated (probably not completely safe or structurally sound, but minimally serviceable) platform in the middle of the copse of trees that you and your friends call “the woods.” After all, no one told you that you couldn’t have a treehouse, just that your dad wasn’t going to build you one.This is one story of many that demonstrate my lifelong habit of coloring just outside the lines and racing just inside the rails, making do with what I have available to me while figuring out how to do whatever needs to happen to get to a desired result, and forging a path forward where many give up. I’m a hacker at heart — of processes, people and policies; tools, rules and technologies. I’m also a lifelong learner, natural pattern spotter and persistent problem slayer, and I’ve spent my career applying these qualities in the technology space to enable businesses and teams in ways that best serve users and customers. I’m happiest when working with smart people on big ideas, and doing whatever it takes to help sharpen and bring those ideas to fruition…including cleaning up any messes made along the way. I believe constraints breed creativity and I don’t shy away from difficult or uncomfortable truths, complex problem spaces, messy people dynamics, regulatory hurdles, or treading into territory where others have failed before.
