DirectorLj Youth Media Jun 2018 - Jan 2022Northern IrelandI set up a new company aimed at empowering the young people of Northern Ireland through media training and coaching workshops. We offered a range of programmes that provide soft skills development and employability skills via creative activities including film production. Unfortunately the impact of COVID-19 has resulted in company closing. An example of one of our project successes was with All Saints Youth Club and Start360 through the ARTiculate fund at Arts Council NI and Public Health Agency. We supported a group of 15 young people in Ballymena over a number of months through our 'Hear My Voice: Bitesize' programme. We facilitated idea generation and planning sessions for the young people to develop and advance their topic of choice which was mental health. Using our expert facilitation, we enabled the participants to push their skill development and increase their confidence and aspiration throughout the training.Under our direction, the young people wrote, planned, acted and produced a film that is their words sharing their thoughts on this vital area for discussion of mental health. We supported the young people to host a launch event inviting members of the public including local Councillors, school Principals and funders. The impact this experience had on the young people has been fantastic, it was an incredibly profound experience for all involved due to the personal connection of the participants to the topic. We look forward to working in partnership with Start360 and All Saints in the future.
