Working in a large ready meal manufacturing site, covering many production and processing methods, I provide a large thriving technical department with robust technical support in both factory and office settings over every level. The role has been extremely varied with all areas of the technical function touched upon. A few examples of what the role has included are; internal and external auditing, including streamlining the reporting system to allow more efficient close-outs by all departments. The management of raw material specifications and supplier approvals from initial risk assessment of products through to launch. Identifying, restructuring and implementing technical documentation on a factory wide basis. Working with QA Managers over different sites to ensure processes are fit for purpose and meet customer requirements i.e. validation and allergen studies. Carrying out gap analysis for new customer policies and procedures, as well as for new certification standards. This role requires me to be flexible and adaptable. To be able to work independently and also manage people on an ad-hoc basis where necessary.

Working within a busy lamb abattoir and cutting plant, my duties included; managing a team of QA's to control any external quality factors. Ensure that as a team products met all specifications and quality parameters. Liase with customers and suppliers to negotiate on quality issues where necessary. Provide guidance to senior management on any technical or regulatory issues. Deputise for the Technical Manager’s position which has included fronting unannounced audits and third party audits for certification. Action and sign off any non-conformance reports by conducting root cause analysis and implementing improved systems where necessaryIn order to carry out this role, I was required to be highly organised with the ability to multi task. Able to manage people over different functions within a busy manufacturing environment. Understand and manage a wide range of different customer specifications and recognise the actions needed to meet and uphold requirements. Meet targets in a timely manner. Conduct internal and external audits in line with accredited quality systems.

Supplying customers and colleagues with technical information such as certificates of conformance and analysis, sending and receiving samples and other technical requests. Responsible for maintaining and running the customer complaints system – from initial contact through the investigation to the final outcome. Maintaining, developing and improving product specifications with regular inspections, taste panels, and feedback. Completing technical paperwork for suppliers and maintaining technical manuals and databases. Monitoring and advising other sites within the technical group of updates to current food legislation and guidelines. Reviewing all suppliers BRC and ISO certifications and reviewing their HACCP and Halal methodology to ensure that all suppliers were in line with company policy.
