Honorable Timothy L. Blakely received his Doctor of Jurisprudence degree with honors, cum laude, from Hamline University School of Law after service in the U.S. Navy, aboard the Trident ballistic missile submarine USS Florida and the aircraft carrier USS America. After completion of active duty, Blakely was selected for commission in the Navy Reserve. In 2005, then-Lieutenant Commander Blakely retired honorably from the military with 21 years combined active and reserve Navy service. Judge Blakely joined the 1st District Trial Bench over 10 years ago. First elected in 1998, to serve the 1st District, Judge Blakely was reelected in 2004. He hears cases in Goodhue, Dakota, Scott, Carver, LeSueur, Sibley, and McLeod counties.Tim has served as an Adjunct Professor of Law at Hamline University School of Law, where he taught civil and criminal court trial skills. While a 1st District Judge, he also served as Adjunct Professor at the University of Minnesota and William Mitchell Law Schools where he has taught trial skills and judged law student trials.Community service activities have included: DARE, Commencement, Memorial Day, and Veterans Day Speaker, and Seminar Presenter for the Minnesota Fire Chief's Association and The Office of Justice Programs, Crime Victim Services.During his combined 17 years as a trial attorney, courtroom Judge, and Adjunct Professor, Judge Blakely has worked effectively to resolve disputes and train new trial attorneys in civil and criminal court work. A senior Member of the Minnesota Sate Bar Association, Judge Blakely has been admitted to practice law before the U.S. Supreme Court, 8th Circuit Court of Appeals, and all levels of the Minnesota Courts.

Promoted to Navy Reserve Intelligence Officer in year 2000 after serving as Cryptology Officer from 1991. Prior active duty for six years, forward-deployed, handling communications and repairs aboard Trident submarine and Facilities Technical Control for multi-band ship-shore, line-of-sight, and Satellite communications systems aboard aircraft carrier.
