This summer program is designed to prepare incoming 7th and 8th grade students for the upcoming school year. Hence, all lessons and learning activities enhance each individual student as a successful scholar.In English, we not only read and write, but we analyze the current learning structures in our school system so that each student carries the necessary academic survival tools and skills needed throughout their academic experiences.In History, we focus on three principles: 1) one's perspective of an event, society, belief, etc., 2) the need to research the "whole story" of an event, and 3) the art and science of thinking for oneself. How this endeavor is accomplished:1. We explore the upcoming textbook to analyze it's structure and outlined information. And, we learn a standard format to use when analyzing a news article.2. We research our own historical facts and events.3. We create Kingdoms. This process gives the students a real-life perspective of how societies have been formed, protected, and enriched or lost.

Currently: 6th and 9th Grade Honors and Regular English.Have taught English Language Development to newcomers to the U.S. with little or no prior knowledge of formal and/or conversational English, Reading and Writing Development.Also have taught Regular 9-12 English, AP English Literature, and Drama.For four years: Lead Teacher of the Culinary Arts and Hospitality Academy, College and Career Pathways.

Oversaw the school-wide English Language Learner Program; provided small group newcomer support; attended district-wide planning and development meeting; provided Staff Development for all staff; Lead Parent ELAC; oversaw Teacher Assistants.

TaughtELD/English to both newcomers into the U.S. and Long-Term English Language Learners, grades 9 and 10.

Coached 50 first-generation college potential high school students' into university-ready academic progress; oversaw three Peer Counselors, and served as a college entry connection.

Oversaw 20 high school students from various high schools in the East Los Angeles area: Garfield, Roosevelt, Lincoln, and others. Served as both a college-entry coach and a tutor. Kept parents informed of individual student progress, university offers, scholarship opportunities, college visits, etc. Taught workshops during the school year on Saturdays on basic high school academic success skills, the college entry process, job attire, mannerisms, and interview skills, etc.
