As Executive Director of Research Initiatives, I am responsible for expanding the research enterprise in the College of Nursing, mentoring faculty in the conduct of research, and advising graduate students. As a professor in the Community and Systems Health Science Division, I oversee my research portfolio in lifestyle interventions, tobacco use cessation, tobacco use prevention, and alcohol prevention. I specialize in healthcare-based, eHealth, and mHealth interventions. I also develop curriculum for professional and lay healthcare providers.
Professor And Vice Chair For Research
I am a tenured professor at the University of Medicine, Arizona Health and Science Center. I have been the PI or co-I on over $42 million in grants funded by the NIH, DoD, industry and foundations. I have numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals, have presented my research findings nationally and internationally, and served as a reviewer on scientific review panels and many journals. My research interests are varied, and I enjoy creating and maintaining partnerships with other researchers and community members interested in improving the health and well-being of individuals, populations, and communities.As Vice Chair for research I am responsible for strategic planning and oversight of the research enterprise in the Department of Family and Community Medicine, a research-intensive department in the College of Medicine. Part of my role is to mentor junior faculty and family medicine residents. In addition, I created and lead the Resident Scholarly Project Program, a structured learning experience, in which all family medicine residents participate. I have served on multiple department, college, and campus-wide committees. My goal is to help faculty develop and obtain their career aspirations, and to create synergy between research and clinical practice in order to improve practitioner and patient outcomes and satisfaction.
