I work in consultation with an additional co-director to consider the needs of students, faculty, and staff to ensure the success of the Core Studies program. This includes but is not limited to staffing, strengthening learning outcomes and program assessment, and facilitating events, along with modernizing and diversifying the Core. This is a three-year rotating position, with the goal to always have it filled by one tenure track and one full-time lecturer sharing the role.

I teach 100 and 300 level courses in the Core program. The Core program is Oglethorpe's unique approach to general education, designed to help students investigate and analyze their individual, social and historical world. In my courses, students build their analytical writing and reading skills while assessing the themes of the self, identity, community, history, myth, memory, and origins.

My dissertation puts Algerian-born philosopher, playwright, and novelist Albert Camus into conversation with the Caribbean postcolonial and migrant authors M. NourbeSe Philip, Edwidge Danticat, and Frantz Fanon. By focusing on the themes of time, history, myth, and memory, it analyzes how contemporary political rhetoric is evoked through the use of allusions to ancient texts. Ultimately, it investigates how individuals and collectives respond to their sociopolitical contexts through the mediums of semi-autobiographical essays, poetry, and historical fiction.
