Associate Executive Director

Handi Capable Hands

Indianapolis, In

Handi-Capable Hands was an integrated workshop for adults with developmental disabilities. The Associates stuffed envelopes, assembled kits, sorted magnets, repackaged services and many other jobs that companies didn't have the staff or time to do. HCH provided pick up and delivery and the associates were willing to do the most tedious jobs ever. HCH has provided services to the some major corporations and non profits in Indiana and California. As a member of our Speakers Bureau I made presentations to community and service groups about HCH and the programs/services provided. My work with HCH was also to secure new associates, jobs and new donors for our programs. I handled the logistics for one of our yearly fundraisers and was responsible for creating and submitting news releases and creating the quarterly newsletter. I administered the accounting and human resources program. In the fall of 2013 I conceived a new web site. Coupled with a web master, the new web site was launched in November of 2013. Sadly, due to our aging population, the sheltered workshop component of the organization became less and less viable. We found our Associates required more "day services" and less employment services. After much negotiation Handi-Capable Hands was closed in January and Easter Seals/Crossroads took over the organization. My position was eliminated due to lack of funding. Working at Handi-Capable Hands was some of the most rewarding I work have ever done in my non-profit career. I am so grateful to have been part of this organization.
