Project Director
All-Energy is the UK's largest renewable and low carbon energy exhibition and conference. I co-created it in 2000 (first show in 2001) with the inspirational David Stott. It was acquired by Reed Exhibitions (RX now) in 2011; I am retained as a consultant to create the conference, handle PR and act as an ambassador for the show. It was held in Aberdeen until 2014 then moved to Glasgow. Our 2024 event was held in May. We blasted through attendance records - our total attendance over the two days was 11,763 - a 21% increase on 2023. Our conference attendance was equally record-breaking for 13,4320 badges were scanned going into conference halls, rooms and show floor theatres! It was marvellous to see the exhibition so busy and buzzing with business being done and so many packed conference halls and show floor theatres. Since the pandemic we've opted for a 'by invitation' conference rather than using a call for speakers (that we reserve for the show floor theatres and this year's is now open at www.all-energy.co.uk/en-gb/conference.html.It's where technology gets a superb airing). Fabulous speakers abounded in 2024! With the Great Grid Upgrade in process we had much more on that side of things than ever before, and throughout the conference (and show floor theatres) something to be repeated in 2025. The exhibition was crammed with superb solutions, All vital for Clean Power 2030.You need to be there! Our 2025 dates are 14 and 15 May. I need your brilliant ideas and we're well and truly open to talk sponsorship for conference sessions and show floor theatres - get your company name up in lights!All-Energy deals with renewable/low carbon generation and the co-located Dcarbonise the public/private end-user so the latter covers decarbonisation of the built environment, heat, transport, cities/places, industry and the supply chain.
Principal
In addition to my stimulating and exciting role as Project Director of All-Energy, I also run a PR company, something I have done (scarily!) for over 50 years. My clients are all unique and so are their marketing requirements. Once I understand the end goal, I provide a range of marketing solutions to achieve those objectivesIn addition to All-Energy (see above) my clients include the IMCA - the International Marine Contractors Association, Hellios and ad hoc work for a number of organisations; and have just finished a 20-year stint with Fugro. Before taking an 18 month sabbatical from JPPR in the late 1990s when I briefly became PR and Marketing Director of Spearhead Exhibitions (determined to work closely with David Stott before he retired, and soak up as much as I could from him on the event business) my clients included stately homes and gardens; garden centres; other tourist attractions; as well as an even wider range of engineering companies of all sizes, oil and gas exhibitions including Offshore Europe from 1975-1999 and from Azerbaijan to Venezuela and much more + Oceanology International, Helitech ++++; and I also published, edited and owned the North Sea Oil and Gas Directory which I sold in 1992. The rest is almost lost in the mists of time but included being chief Press Officer at the Hamlyn Publishing Group, a PR account executive at Good Relations and Foote Cone and Belding and a PR trainee at Campbell Johnson, it has provided me with a fascinating and stimulating career! I wrote two cookery books with my late mother, Marguerite Patten CBE, and researched a bibliography of 'modern cookery' in 1975 which bore her name.
President
Being President of the learned society made for a fascinating year from December 2020-December 2021. Now, as a Past President sit on Council. Naturally it was an out of the ordinary year thanks to COVID/lockdowns etc etc but it was great to see the SUT's well known Subsea Awareness Course successfully (after 1,000+ have benefitted from it over the years) translate into a virtual course; and the first offshore wind courses held (with some superb women speaking too). Both attracted delegates from around the world which was certainly a bonus. I'm on hand to help my successor Moya Crawford in any way I can; and to act as the society's Hon Press Officer. Thank you SUT and its marvellous team and my fellow officers for an enlightening and enjoyable 12 months
