As part of the CIB Risk, I have responsibility for all credit risk in Wells Fargo’s Financial Institutions banks’ business globally and additionally serve as Head of Country Risk for the enterprise. Lead a team of senior credit officers and country risk experts covering Asia Pacific, EMEA, Latin America and the U.S. Approve large and complex exposures and credit policy, proactively manage the portfolio globally ensuring that credit quality is maintained, key risks identified and losses minimised. Prior to the addition of country risk responsibilities in 2020, served as CCO for the entirety of the FIG business globally, including banks, insurance, asset management and market structure. Prior to assuming this role served as Head of FIG credit risk for EMEA.

Performing a specialist role within the Corporate and Financial Institution Credit Risk team, part of the Risk Specialists Division of the FSA. Supporting Supervision by providing independent risk assessment and through peer comparison, seeking to drive best practice within the industry. Primary focus on high and medium high impact firms, assessing the quality and dynamics of credit portfolios and the effectiveness of firms’ credit risk governance, process and controls through desk top reviews and firm visits. Identifying issues and producing clear recommendations for resolution, engaging with senior management, typically at Chief Risk Officer and Chief Credit Officer level, delivering feedback to same, both verbal and written. Indentifying emerging risks in the industry and escalating as appropriate and monitoring same.

Highly experienced Financial Institutions credit executive, with considerable depth of client and product knowledge, demonstrating technical proficiency. Responsible for articulating the firm’s credit appetite for specific names and sectors, approving transactions across a full product range (including all derivatives, bilateral, bridge and syndicated loans, securities financing and trade finance) in a judicious manner. Promoting effective and independent oversight of the credit process and policies and ensuring the accuracy and consistency of risk assessment including the approval of all ratings and exposure. Demonstrating this across a portfolio of banks, asset managers and underlying funds, pension funds, broker dealers, sovereigns and agencies and insurance companies in Europe, predominantly developed markets and selected emerging markets. Provided coverage for the trading floors making time critical decisions while demonstrating sound judgement and articulating views to the traders while remaining calm under pressure and able to handle conflict.
