About Judith Robinson

Judith Robinson is Executive Director of Coming Clean. She began working in environmental health in 1998 as Program Associate, then Western New York Director, of Citizens’ Environmental Coalition, a New York statewide, grassroots advocacy organization. In 2001, she joined the Environmental Health Fund as Special Projects Director. She was later promoted to Associate Director in 2010, and in 2012, to Executive Director. Along the way, Robinson provided consulting to foundations on how to resource collaborative campaigning on environmental health and justice as she worked to build those relationships and strategies among NGOs. In 2001, Robinson co-founded Coming Clean with a couple dozen other activists and advocates for environmental health and environmental justice. Coming Clean is an innovative campaigning strategy to align grassroots, national, environmental justice, policy, pesticides, fossil fuel, and energy groups around a common agenda to develop campaigns and solution-based implementation strategies to compel government and corporations to take responsibility for the risks and costs to health and the environment from current and legacy petrochemical operations. She started as a Work Group Leader, becoming Coming Clean’s Executive Director in 2012. In the past 20 years, Robinson has helped develop Coming Clean into a 501c3 non-profit with 200 member organizations and 400 experts from across the country and internationally, including a strategic partnership with the Environmental Justice Health Alliance for Chemical Policy Reform (EJHA). EJHA is a national network of grassroots environmental and economic justice organizations and advocates in communities that are disproportionately impacted by toxic chemicals from legacy contamination, ongoing exposure to polluting facilities and health-harming chemicals in household products. EJHA supports a just transition towards safer chemicals and a pollution-free economy that leaves no community or worker behind. Coming Clean’s strategies include developing new science and research on petrochemical exposures that help drive campaigns for precaution and health, building support for synergistic policy and market initiatives with grassroots-to-national action, promoting the leadership, vision and voices of environmental justice grassroots organizers, and developing a coalition of environmental health and justice groups and energy-focused organizations that support action on the cumulative impact of toxic chemicals and disclosure, assessment, and safer substitution of toxic chemicals worldwide.
