The AZ Global Research & Development Finance lead across all therapy areas to deliver robust financial stewardship and a strong strategic partnering to AZs most Senior leaders. Shaping near term and long term R&D investment decisions with a sharp eye on pharma industry trends, Return on Investment and overall investment thesis.Leading a finance partnering team of +120 people across the global footprint to strategize and operationalise the delivery of the next generation of drugs to patients. My role allows me to move between tactics of drug project delivery, driving efficiency and managing costs, with the longer term strategy, where new technologies offer patients new and exciting treatment options. Balancing risk and return is the challenge of research and development in the Pharma industry and in this role I play a key role in R&D decision making and managing the risk profile.

Overall responsibility for AZ Japan business delivering commercial business of +$2bn in 2017. In the second half of 2017 I had the opportunity to lead the AZ Japan business, with +3000 employees delivering revenue of +$2bn and growing AZ in a declining market.With the need to stabilise the business as the previous General Manger moved on I lead the full implementation of Business Unit structure to ensure AZ is ready for 2018 with a plethora of new product launches and significant life cycle opportunities. The General Manager role gave me an opportunity to work with other Pharma leaders on important industry issues with major pricing reforms, a quest to keep innovation top of mind and above all a desire to bring innovative medicines to patients who deserve the very best treatment options.
