Dane County Transition School(DCTS) worked to educate high school students who required a non-traditional educational format and a new beginning. Each student that attended DCTS had their own journey. Some of those backgrounds included: sexual, emotional, and physical abuse; post traumatic stress syndrome; depression; anxiety; bullied; bipolar disorder; eating disorders; drug addiction; court involvement, severe illness; learning disabilities. DCTS was a safe learning environment and community because of the web of relationships, and partnerships that had been developed. DCTS students were cared for, respected, and believed in. Students understood that it was a privilege to become a part of the DCTS community/family. Students who attended DCTS understood that they were not at-risk, but at-promise. DCTS students learned that it is not about graduation, but where they are going next.Over twenty-years, DCTS boasted a graduation rate of 97%, with 80% of the graduates continuing on with educational opportunities.
