I have an undergraduate degree in Economics from Queen's University, an MBA from McMaster and recently finished a Graduate Certificate in Technical Writing through Algonquin College.For the past 27 years, I have worked in the Social Services Sector - with the Ontario government and as a consultant - with a focus on Developmental Services and Children's Services. Much of this work has involved researching, analyzing, writing, editing and presenting ideas and solutions on social policy issues.Working in the provincial government and as a consultant has provided many opportunities to develop a strong skill set in several areas - analytical skills; written and oral communication skills; project management skills; leadership and negotiation skills; and interpersonal skills. I have a proven ability to produce quality materials in a high pressure environment under tight deadlines with great attention to detail. I work well as part of a team and independently as required. With excellent organizational skills I am very good at multi-tasking and priority setting.The technical writing program solidified much of what I learned on the job - identifying the target audience and preparing the materials that meet their needs. My writing contributions include researching, designing, writing and editing a variety of document types - policy documents, guides, proposals, communication materials - that are well suited to the intended audiences.Writing content for SeeWhatSheCanDo has provided a great opportunity to showcase the fun side of my writing capabilities. My blog posts cover a variety of activities from rugby to sledge hockey - some that I have firsthand experience with and some that require research. SWSCD was created to inspire and celebrate women as they lead healthy and active lives.
