Judy Kneece has changed cancer care delivery by developing, implementing and teaching Patient Navigation for 21 years. Her concept of nurse-provided patient support, education and coordination of care from diagnosis throughout recovery have now been adopted an accreditation standard by the Commission on Cancer and NAPBC (National Accreditation Program Breast Cancer). Every patient entering into an accredited breast center or cancer center will now have the services of a nurse patient navigator to help simplify the cancer journey by providing education and support. Judy dedicated her life work to changing the cancer experience for patients through education and support. A major part of this effort was to write patient educational material that demystify the cancer experience. She is the author of the Breast Cancer Treatment handbook which has been in print for 20 years as a guide to breast cancer patients. The Breast Cancer Survivorship Handbook was published in 2014. Judy is a visionary and pioneer of healthcare delivery that meets the complex emotional, social and educational needs of an individual cancer patient. Her work was recognized and honored this year at the National Interdisciplinary Breast Care Conference by awarding the INSPIRATION Award for the development of nursing patient navigation from diagnosis through survivorship.

Judy has trained over 2,300 nurses to become Breast Health Navigators to work in hospitals and breast centers around the globe. Judy is author of the Breast Cancer Treatment Handbook, which was first published in 1995 and is now in the 8th Edition. She also wrote the Breast Cancer Support Partner Handbook, which was first published in 1995 and is also in the 8th Edition. The Breast Cancer Survivorship Care Plan Package was released in September 2013. The package is designed to be given to the breast cancer survivor at discharge by the healthcare team. The package includes the Breast Cancer Survivorship Handbook, a comprehensive guideline to survivorship.Judy is also the author of Cope Library: Breast Health Edition, which consists of 433 patient education topics for patient teaching by physicians and nurses. Cope Library is a yearly online subscription that is customized with the facility logo, address and contact information.Judy presently serves on the NAPBC (National Accreditation Program Breast Centers) Education Committee for the American College of Surgeons.At the 24th National Interdisciplinary Breast Care Conference in March 2015, Judy was awarded the national Inspiration Award. She was recognized for the development of nursing navigation in 1991. Her model of a nurse providing patient support and education throughout the continuum of care has now been adopted nationally by the Commission on Cancer for all cancer patients as an accreditation standard. As a pioneer, she has succeeded in changing care delivery for all cancer patients. As a service to her community, Judy serves on the Board of Trustees at Charleston Southern University. She serves as Chair of the Education Committee on the Board of Trustees and on the Charleston Southern Nursing Board of Advisors. She is also active in the Charleston Southern Buc Club and serves on the Board of Directors.
