I Graduated from Wellington High school, Enter Akron General Hospital School of Nursing where I completed my first two years of nursing. I married my husband Dick. Moved to Lorain, Ohio and completed my last year of nursing at Elyria Memorial Hospital. After graduation I worked on a medical surgical floor until I delivered my first child. After I had my third daughter I worked at Amherst hospital in Amherst, Ohio for 19 years. While there I worked on the Maternity Unit in postpartum. L & D, and nursery. I saw many changes in maternity practices and in the education and support of women who choose breastfeeding as the preferred way to feed their babies. After there I went to work at the Erie County Health Department in Sandusky, Ohio. I started as the nurse who did prenatal assessment, education and lab draws. I then became the WIC Breastfeeding Coordinator. 20 years later I am the Breastfeeding Program Supervisor. I oversee, train and evaluate WIC Peer Helpers, I developed and oversee the Infant feeding education of all pregnant women and support and promote breastfeeding in our community. I am currently starting outreach in the Sandusky area by promoting the Business Case for Breastfeeding, I have worked to develop the Firelands Area Breastfeeding Alliance, and have been a speaker for Toledo Perinatal Breastfeeding Consortium.
