About Judy Gold

I am a programme innovator and evaluator with 15 years' experience in research, public health and international development. The tools and approaches I use vary, but some of my favourites are theories of change to describe how programs are believed to work and their intended outcomes , and user-centered design principles and practices, particularly user engagement and prototyping, to develop improved and innovative approaches. I believe that programming is most likely to be effective when there is a robust monitoring and evaluation (M&E) plan in place, including SMART indicators that allow for iterative cycles of feedback and learning (aka developmental evaluation) to inform ongoing implementation. My other professional passions include: ⇨ Making data accessible and useful, including data visualisations such as infographics and dashboards ⇨ Building individuals and organisations skills and confidence in leading their own M&E activities, rather than relying on outside experts ⇨ Utilising theories, frameworks and practices from the health promotion, implementation science, collective impact, design, and systems thinking traditions to solve development challenges locally and globally. While I’m particularly passionate about improving health and wellbeing of young people, indigenous populations and people in and from less developed countries – and especially sexual and reproductive health - I enjoy working on any initiative that has a positive social change agenda.
