In 2018, my journey on the path to become an end-of-life practitioner began with the sudden death of my brother. After his death, I was drawn to learn how families and the dying could be better cared for and discovered the roles of the death doula and the end-of-life practitioner. This was undeniably a pivot from my 30-year career in public relations. In October 2020, I completed training as an end-of-life doula through the International End-of-Life Doula Association (INELDA). Shortly afterwards, I began serving as a Traditions Health Hospice volunteer. Soon, I was called to dive yet deeper into this role by completing The HeartWay’s 600-hour End-of-Life Practitioner Certification Training Program. This two-level training included in-depth education, client hours, and a supervised internship program. Since then, I have served as a volunteer with The HeartWay and with Salus Hospice. I serve my clients by advocating for their needs, tending to their emotional and spiritual concerns while providing compassionate guidance toward a peaceful transition unto death. We are all unique individuals who approach life and living on our own terms. Why should our approach to death and dying be any different? My offerings compliment curative, palliative or hospice care and can include: companionship, life review, advocacy, accessing resources, assembling end-of-life documents, legacy projects, vigil planning, guided imagery, Yoga Nidra, Reiki, rituals, and obituary writing. Services are available in English, Spanish, and French.

Certified End-Of-Life PractitionerSpirited Crossings Feb 2023 - PresentAliso Viejo, California, United StatesAn end-of-life practitioner (ELP) is a non-medical professional trained to care for the dying and their families. They provide an integrative solution working side by side with hospice, hospitals, and other end-of-life organizations to provide the dying and their caregivers with an inclusive and supportive approach to dying and death. An ELP is a death doula, but death doulas may not be ELPs. The difference often lies within their educational backgrounds, their scope of practice, and services they provide. Their services are often directed towards helping families cope with death, restoring sacredness to dying, and bringing deep meaning to the dying experience. An ELP is trained as a death doula, and they are also highly trained in skills that involve practical, psychological, social, and spiritual support for the dying and their caregivers. End-of-life care practices include vigil, end-of-life rituals, Yoga Nidra, care planning, legacy projects, as well as after death care and grief support.
