Jun 2018 - Jun 2019

Director Of Community Outreach

Honored to receive the "Work of Heart" award from the Catholic Foundation in December of 2015 for my efforts to get Bishop Dunne students accepted by colleges and gain scholarship offers by writing and publishing stories about them, and creating articles about the school's many educational programs, athletic teams and teachers. Sold thousands of dollars worth of ads for our Fall Sports Media Guide (that was then expanded to three guides for Fall sports; Winter sports; Spring sports with funds going to the athletic teams) and helped to raise funds through annual events including the Bishop Dunne 100 Scholarship Dinner in October, Annual Golf Tournament in April and fun "Casino Night" in February. Attended weekly Wednesday meetings of the Oak Cliff Lions Club and became involved in their charitable works including Special Olympics and monthly Low Vision Eye Clinics and Farmer's Markets. Became an active Lions Club Board member, honored to be "Cub" (Rookie) of the Year my first year and "Grass Roots" member in my fourth year. Also joined Oak Cliff Women in Business. Managed Facebook pages for the Lions and OCWIB, and Altrusa International of Downtown Dallas.Prior to this position I taught Senior Theology - Social Issues/Community Service to senior students at Bishop Lynch High School from 1998-2011. I supervised their on-site volunteer work which included going to 21 different sites near Bishop Lynch: both public elementary and junior high schools, Catholic "feeder" schools to BL and local retirement homes and public daycares, even a thrift store that made lunches to-go for the hungry and homeless. I taught about 3/4 of the senior class each year (200 students a year) and coached the tennis team for seven years, so educated about 3,000 students there. Every day was a different challenge. I was the first faculty member awarded the Catholic Foundation's "Heart of Work" award, and also received "Faculty member of the month" a number of times.

My copy writing skills got us a lot of "free" publicity throughout the state and even a mention I the "Thumbs Up" section of the Dallas Morning News. Led 1,600 volunteers to a one-day event, The Yantis Yam Jam, in Yantis, Texas, to hand pick (glean) three 18-wheeler truck loads of sweet potatoes to bring back to the local food banks in DFW to feed the elderly and poor through the N Texas Food Bank and dozens of church outreach organizations.
