Research student involved in a retrospective cohort study under neurologist Dr. Luciano Sposato at the Lawson Research Institute. Investigated the link between ECG patterns and post-ischemic stroke major adverse cardiovascular events (PS-MACE), as part of the London Ontario Stroke Registry (LOSR) registry. The goal is to help develop a quick and inexpensive point-of-care tool for identifying patients at high risk of severe cardiovascular outcomes after a stroke or TIA. As part of an honours thesis, findings from this study were viewed and integrated into a One Health Approach towards ischemic stroke, considering stakeholders and social determinants of health. Responsibilities:-Attended regular meetings with all parties involved in the study (ex: research coordinators, PI)-Screened patient data following inclusion/exclusion criteria for addition into the study cohort-Entered data ensuring accuracy from LHSC patient medical charts via RedCap London Ontario Stroke Registry (LOSR). -Cleaned data for cox regression analysis on desired variables using Microsoft Excel, and sorted variables based on binary results-Performed a literature review on stroke and cardiovascular health. Weldon libraryResponsibilities:- Performed a basic level of Information/Public Service duties for library users which includes greeting users to the library, checking library materials in and out, and providing access to items on short term loan such as course readings and technology. - Explained policy regarding health and safety, supporting bookable spaces and printing, troubleshooting technology, and making referrals to online services- Assisted with Document Delivery activities including retrieving, scanning, and packaging of materials as directed- Assisted with Collections Maintenance activities, including shelving, shelf-reading, and shifting of library materials as directed- Performed duties to support Outreach and Events initiatives, including rearranging furniture, setting up for events, and acting as a representative for Western Libraries.

The Academic Success and LAMP programs connect students with an upper year Peer Leader from their Faculty. They aim to provide wayfinding, learning skills, and social support to first year students in select courses in support of a successful transition to university life. The Peer Leader role is crucial for the overall success of the program. Peer Leaders are responsible for providing academic and social supports to groups of first year students for the duration of the fall term. They initiate weekly contact and goal setting with their groups, connect with their first-year students, and encourage participation in virtual social events and activities.Key responsibilities: - Maintained contact with a group of ~10 students as a mentor to guide their transition into university- Implemented the program's weekly curriculum, including working with first year students to set goals for their time at Western. - Facilitated 90 minute sessions over Zoom by utilizing and adapting to the functionality of technology to ensure high engagement.- Tailored the weekly sessions to match each unique group of students to deliver the curriculum in a creative and innovative fashion.- Maintained weekly contact with a small group of first year students; assessed their needs and provided resources and supports. Kept them up to date with events, services and programs to enhance their Western experience.- Attended weekly meetings with a Senior Peer Leader to report my progress and learn the week's content for later delivery to first year students.

Academic Support and Engagement (ASE) supports incoming students through a variety of different avenues. Through participation in transition programming, students engage and familiarize themselves with a variety of student supports and resources. Shadowed PhD candidates at the National University of Singapore's Biomedical Engineering Lab in the development of robotics technologies to assist with stroke rehabilitation and occupational strain (repetitive movements). Gained insight on the importance of technology in health care rehabilitation and the applications of robotics in improving occupational safety. Learned about the growing field of machine learning for intention sensing in rehabilitation patients, and the use of VR for serious games in health to help patients achieve accountability and a greater sense of motivation in their recovery progress.Summarised findings in an academic report, citing all relevant sources using reference managers.Obtained informed consent from participants of prototype walker and exoskeleton experiments. Western’s Department of Academic Support & Engagement has recently started using the CliftonStrengths® assessment as a tool for helping students discover their unique talents and apply them productively towards their academic journeys. As part of expanding the scope of the programming we can offer, and to facilitate leadership development opportunities for first year students, we are developing a train-the-trainer program that will train first year peer champions to help with the delivery of strengths programming on campus. This curriculum will accompany existing events, such as the Community Connections on campus orientation, and the Academic Support Peers program. I am working with a team of 10 first year students, and two professional strengths consultants to assist in creating the strengths training program. As students, we lend our voices to program design, providing feedback on what does and does not work in student training programs that are offered both face-to-face and in a virtual environment. Through strategic planning and futuristic thinking, we hope to teach students how to harness their unique strengths towards long term academic and interpersonal success. The motto? Talent + Investment = Strength-Achieved proficiency in the Clifton Strengths goals and concepts- Attended workshops to learn facilitation techniques, and provide feedback on Strengths program development through a student perspective - Designed and abridged a comprehensive facilitation guide for Strengths program delivery at Western- Worked alongside team members to draft the facilitation Powerpoint presentation reaching 500+ incoming students in the next 3 years- Brainstormed engaging and creative reflection activities for students to increase awareness of their talents while acknowledging their areas of improvement, using web-platforms like Ruzuku and Mural- Researched and compiled effective application activities that champion Strength-centered goal-setting

Humans in Healthcare (HH) is an initiative that strives to shed light on the most pressing health care concerns through an individual-centered approach, involving individuals at all points of the health care spectrum- from providers, to its consumers. We believe that an acute understanding and awareness of the social environment is necessary to facilitate de-stigmatization, break barriers, and inspire positive change, in the context of holistic health. Inspired by the 'Humans of New York' style of telling stories, HH attempts to portray healthcare as the act of understanding the individual with the disease, rather than just the disease. INK Movement works to empower youth by using the arts as an outlet of self expression. Every year, we release an exclusive collection of youth artwork in a published anthology showcasing poetry, short stories, visual art, and photography of 50 talented artists. We also host numerous community events, such as poetry slams and workshops. My role as an Event Lead: Secured $750 grant from Rising Youth x Canada Service Corps for career planning panel event (Pathway PlanINK) with 40+ attendeesOVERSEE - Manage ALL aspects of an Ink Movement initiative, which may include securing a venue, booking a suitable date/time, securing speakers/presenters, creating an itinerary & volunteer plan for team members, coordinating set-up/take-down on the event day.
