Research Student (Neurology)London Health Sciences Centre (Lhsc) Sep 2023 - Apr 2024University Hospital, London OntarioResearch student involved in a retrospective cohort study under neurologist Dr. Luciano Sposato at the Lawson Research Institute. Investigated the link between ECG patterns and post-ischemic stroke major adverse cardiovascular events (PS-MACE), as part of the London Ontario Stroke Registry (LOSR) registry. The goal is to help develop a quick and inexpensive point-of-care tool for identifying patients at high risk of severe cardiovascular outcomes after a stroke or TIA. As part of an honours thesis, findings from this study were viewed and integrated into a One Health Approach towards ischemic stroke, considering stakeholders and social determinants of health. Responsibilities:-Attended regular meetings with all parties involved in the study (ex: research coordinators, PI)-Screened patient data following inclusion/exclusion criteria for addition into the study cohort-Entered data ensuring accuracy from LHSC patient medical charts via RedCap London Ontario Stroke Registry (LOSR). -Cleaned data for cox regression analysis on desired variables using Microsoft Excel, and sorted variables based on binary results-Performed a literature review on stroke and cardiovascular health. This curriculum will accompany existing events, such as the Community Connections on campus orientation, and the Academic Support Peers program. I am working with a team of 10 first year students, and two professional strengths consultants to assist in creating the strengths training program. As students, we lend our voices to program design, providing feedback on what does and does not work in student training programs that are offered both face-to-face and in a virtual environment. Through strategic planning and futuristic thinking, we hope to teach students how to harness their unique strengths towards long term academic and interpersonal success. The motto?
