As a passionate and dedicated chemical engineering student, I have consistently sought opportunities to explore new horizons, adapt to diverse environments, and apply design thinking to innovate solutions. The following are the highlights in my college journey so far.During my semester abroad at National University of Singapore, I immersed myself in Southeast Asian culture while tackling three core chemical engineering courses and one tech elective. The rigorous academics challenged me to excel, and I even got to author a professional peer reviewed essay on the temperature and pressure dependence properties of Hexagonal Boron Nitride with Carbon substitution— a promising material used in areas such as quantum coupling and nano electronics. As the second cohort of the Global Leaders Program in UIUC, I engaged deeply with the issue of food insecurity. In a local project, my teammates and I collaborated with communities around UIUC to develop a website that informs residents about available food types and distribution points to ensure timely access. In a Colombian project, my teammates and I developed prototypes and compiled a list of potentially local collaborators to provide resources to combat food insecurity. This experience honed my skills in team collaboration, communication, event planning, and design thinking, while deepening my understanding of social justice issues. My participation in entrepreneurship projects has been equally enriching. Through related coursework, I have worked on solutions for issues that affect various demographics, such as dementia patients, high school students with mental health issues, elderly living alone, and dog owners. I also competed in a campus wide venture challenge with my team, working on an AI voice journaling app called Emonet. These experiences allowed me to think both creatively and practically, fostering my growth as an innovative leader.
