In past two years I have had a privilege to work with great colleagues and learn Metso Valve Controllers, especially Neles NDX-series in very detailed level. As a Development Engineer in mechanics I have had an opportunity to work in close co-operation with our internal and external stakeholder such as electronics designers, suppliers, quality department, production and lab, just to name a few.I have participated several projects aiming for new product features, better manufacturability, cost reduction, product range extensions, new product options and accessories as well as quality improvements. Some of the results are yet to be released, so I will not go into details here.As Metso is planning to split in two, Metso Flow Controls will most likely to become Neles. As expected, this kind of plans easily triggers organizational changes and as a result, my permanent Development Engineer contract discontinued. However, I got an time-limited offer for Rework Production Planner & Quality Developer position at Neles, and I accepted it although permanent contract would still be a preferred choice for me.

Product Engineer participates in product engineering and maintenance activities.Responsibilities include product maintenance and variant creation as well as participation in engineering projects. Standardized and measurable development methods, engineering process, latest technologies, and research know-how as well as technology platforms are utilized to achieve specified quality, functionality and product cost goals. Relevant stakeholders are contacted and kept updated related to engineering activities. Product Engineer is responsible for engineering project deliveries and accomplishes design and construction tasks.Demand of laboratory tests to ensure compliance with relevant norms and approval standard is observed by Product Engineer. Test plans, descriptions, specifications, test result analysis and follow-ups are done to clarify technical problems, to ensure product safety and robustness of the product.Product Engineer is also responsible for technical documentation and product master data. Technical development is documented in design journals. Also documentation needed for product approvals is produced.Product Engineer receives tasks from and reports to Product Engineering Manager who also takes care of personal competence development of the Product Engineer. Product Technical Responsible coordinated engineering activities and handles knowledge sharing of product and technologies. Product Development Managers and Product Engineers working in Development projects takes care of knowledge sharing when handing over new products to engineering function after the product launch. Product Engineer also delegates design and documentation tasks to Assistant Engineers and works in close co-operation with Product Specialists. External knowledge pools are also utilized for knowledge sharing and collection.Product Engineer has authority to plan his/her own tasks and make decisions related to detailed design within a specified technical area.
